Keep it simple!

Alsalam alikom wa ra7amt Allah wa barakatoh

This is my 100th post (actually I've some other posts in the queue but this is the 100th published post)... I've received and email that I really liked and thought about posting about the topic here...

First story:
- Americans faced a very big problem when they were planning for their first journey to the outside space.. the problem is that astronauts will not be able to use Pens and of course ink will never go out of the pen or else, it'll not stay on the paper.. to solve this, they spent about 10 millions of dollars (as the email claimed) in research to invent special pen with special ink that can be used.....
on the other hand, when Russians faced the same problem, they simply advised their astronauts to use pencils ;)..

Second story:
- In China, there was a factory that produces something and pack it in boxes automatically. the problem is that sometimes empty boxes are produced they wanted to make something that rejects empty boxes... They made a machine that uses some sensors to detect whether a box is empty or not, then they hired someone to stand beside this machine and throws empty boxes...
The same problem happened in a smaller factory and all what they did is putting a fan that faced the assembly line, any empty box that passes in front of it will be pushed away...

The moral here is that, search for a simple solution before trying complex ones...
From my little experience, people tend to find complex solutions faster than simple ones.

Next time when you face a problem, write down the first solution you find then give urself sometime to find another one...

Last thing, don't search for a problem to test this post, problems will find you wherever you are ;)

  4. I'm not sure, a quick searching and I found this:
    http://science.howstuffworks.com/ten-nasa-achievements10.htm

Which actually says this story is an urban legend.

It claims that a private company spent $1M to make that pen, and that both Russians and Americans bought it for 6$ each. Moreover, both parties were using pencils before that and were worried about the dust it may cause.

I just used it to prove the point :)

    Have a nice day.

Windows7 adds Math Input Panel

Alsalam alikom wa ra7mat Allah wa barakatoh… I was reading a windows team post about Input Panels improvements in Windows7 [ here ]. When at the end I saw a very interesting –intuitive if you wish- new thing… which is, as you guessed, the Math Input Panel… Yes, that crappy font is mine… I “drew” that by mouse as I don’t have a tablet pen/pc. You can then paste it directly into word and it’ll recognize it as an editable equation… During my tests, the output panel (the top part) hanged, but I liked that the drawing panel was still responsive and I could still write/erase… till the top one started to respond again… One other thing to know, after you click Insert (that button down there) it copies the equation in MathML [ Wikipedia link ] format.. which is a standard way of representing equations and hence any application that recognizes the format can insert it not as an image but as a nice editable equation… If you think it recognized something wrong, you can click “Sele

Visual Studio 2008 Not saving changes or project properties?

Alsalam alikom wa ra7mat Allah wa barakatoh (Peace upon you) I’ve recently ran into problems with VS 2008. Summarized here: When you try to edit the project properties (specially C++ projects) you are faced with a little nice message saying “Exception from HRESULT: 0xF9F0F308”. Sometimes when you are editing a file (specially large ones), VS doesn’t recognize you’ve made changes (ie doesn’t display that ‘*’ in the files tabs) hence, when you save, nothing actually gets saved. For those 2 problems, a friend explained the problem and a work around (till they officially release a fix)… Open up a Visual Studio 2008 Command Prompt Run cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE" Make a backup copy of devenv.exe in case something does not work right. ie. copy devenv.exe devenv.exe.bak Run editbin /largeaddressaware:no devenv.exe Happy VSing… :)
