Original vs Cracked SW..

Alsalam alikom wa ra7mat allah wa barakatoh

Strange Huh!!! who is that comparing between Original & Cracked SW..

I'm not hear to compare the pros & cons of using each of them. I'm just trying to help people to use the original sw instead..

One day, I was coding on my friend's laptop (Teaching assistant Abdalla Gamal, Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, Ain Shams Uinversity, Cairo, Egypt) when I found him using Microsoft Visual C++ Express Edition (which is free), then few minutes later, I noticed that he is using AVG antivirus (which is free), when I asked him about that later, he confirmed that he decided not to use any thing cracked on his laptop nor his home pc... I really liked the idea..

Once I read in a colleage's blog post about some substitutions for SW with Web Based solutions (AJAX Enabled) but till now (when intenet is not that fast...) Web applications can't substitute windows applications (at least in my opinion)

I'm posting this today trying to discuss what r the substitutions for paid software we use daily...

- Windows : I'll not enter the argue of using Linux or Windows, but at least I can tell u that Windows License comes with any new laptop (almot any), so just use it..
- MS Office : I recommend that u try OpenOffice, it's really becoming so good..
- Microsoft Visual Studio : Use the Express Editions (Free but not fully functional), or use SharpDevelop which is becoming a very good (OpenSource) substitution for C# Developers..
- Norton & Mcafee Suites : use AVG Internet Secuirty..
- Nero, Roxio Easy CD Creator & Alchol : I didn't find any good subtitution for them, quick search in sourceforge.net led to a lot of Audio CD Burners...
- Download managers : There r tons of them online & free..

Let's come to the real and critical problem, which is the specialized SW..

- Scientific SW is found in two forms (OpenSource Packages & Paid SW) and as my little experince says, Paid SW win..

- Developers, I had a post earlier that spoke about some free tools to use in ur Graduation project, I guess it would be useful here "Graduation Project.. What do u need to know.."

- Graphics guys, who use Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw Suite, Autodesk 3d Studio Max, Autodesk Maya will not find any respectable substitution for their favorite programs..

- Audio Composers : although there r a lot of good free software but non proved to be as proffesional as paid ones (I'm not an expert in this field)..

That's all what I've for now, if u have other paid SW that u need substitutions for, plz let me know, if u have anything to be added to the list, let me know too...

Thanks all,
Yours,

Windows7 adds Math Input Panel

Alsalam alikom wa ra7mat Allah wa barakatoh… I was reading a windows team post about Input Panels improvements in Windows7 [ here ]. When at the end I saw a very interesting –intuitive if you wish- new thing… which is, as you guessed, the Math Input Panel… Yes, that crappy font is mine… I “drew” that by mouse as I don’t have a tablet pen/pc. You can then paste it directly into word and it’ll recognize it as an editable equation… During my tests, the output panel (the top part) hanged, but I liked that the drawing panel was still responsive and I could still write/erase… till the top one started to respond again… One other thing to know, after you click Insert (that button down there) it copies the equation in MathML [ Wikipedia link ] format.. which is a standard way of representing equations and hence any application that recognizes the format can insert it not as an image but as a nice editable equation… If you think it recognized something wrong, you can click “Sele

Visual Studio 2008 Not saving changes or project properties?

Alsalam alikom wa ra7mat Allah wa barakatoh (Peace upon you) I’ve recently ran into problems with VS 2008. Summarized here: When you try to edit the project properties (specially C++ projects) you are faced with a little nice message saying “Exception from HRESULT: 0xF9F0F308”. Sometimes when you are editing a file (specially large ones), VS doesn’t recognize you’ve made changes (ie doesn’t display that ‘*’ in the files tabs) hence, when you save, nothing actually gets saved. For those 2 problems, a friend explained the problem and a work around (till they officially release a fix)… Open up a Visual Studio 2008 Command Prompt Run cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE" Make a backup copy of devenv.exe in case something does not work right. ie. copy devenv.exe devenv.exe.bak Run editbin /largeaddressaware:no devenv.exe Happy VSing… :)
